Trip to Central Australia - Part 2 Alice Springs, Simpson's Gap, Standley Chasm & Hermannsburg

We hired a 4WD vehicle visiting Alice Springs, West Macdonnell Ranges, Simpsons Gap & Standley Chasm. Also the small town of Hermannsburg, where the Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira was born. The colours of the West Macdonnell Ranges, are more red & with less vegetation than the eastern ranges.

Trip to Central Australia - Part 1 Ross River

We recently had a fabulous trip to Central Australia, from 14th July to 27th July 2012. The first week was spent at Ross River Station, which is 85kms east of Alice Springs, in the East Macdonnell Ranges. Overnight temperatures got down to -3 degrees, but the days were sunny & mild. As long as you are out of the desert wind! There were 17 of us, [artists & photographers] Trip was organised by Cilla Campbell, art teacher from WEA Sydney. Daily trips, informative commentary & delicious campsite meals by Gerry & Corrine of Sandrifter Safaris.
The beauty of this remote area, was inspirational for painting & photography. Without TV, mobiles & computers, it is amazing what you do tune into. And the night skies!!!! This is a glimpse of the many photos & plein air sketches.

I painted these 'en plein air' {outdoors} at Lavender Bay, Sydney Harbour. This is a beautiful spot on the northern side of the harbour and near Wendy Whiteley's garden. This gorgeous garden, was created and tendered by Wendy, who is the wife of the late artist, Brett Whiteley. Also the artist Peter kingston, who lives at Lavender Bay, has created these whimsical little statues, Blinky Bill, etc & Boofhead, shown below. These are situated along the boardwalk.

Echinacea is a beautiful flower, used for medicinal purposes. The inspiration came from a photo I took in the botanical gardens in Sydney.

Curranulla Ferry at Bundeena

Bundeena is a small coastal town, situated in the Royal National Park, south of Sydney and at the mouth of the Port Hacking River. The Curranulla ferry, travels from Cronulla to Bundeena, every hour until 7pm. Trip takes 20 minutes, and is really lovely. Our family has had many happy holidays here. The bay is wonderful spot for all kinds of water sports. The Royal National Park, has many beautiful bush walks.

PanelPop is a porcelain like surface encased in rustic salvaged timber. It can be used with many mediums and photographs. I purchased it from PanelPop in Melbourne, Brunswick Street Fitzroy. Its fantastic!, will  definitely be purchasing more.

Austinmer Pool - View 1

I did this small painting, on a beautiful summers day, looking down on the ocean pool, at Austinmer. This gorgeous little beach is situated, approximately 1 hour south of Sydney. The small village lies between the ocean and towering bush escarpment. Sydney summer has been a bit erratic, so it was to lovely to paint out side & capture people, children enjoying themselves. The beach was quite rough, so the children in foreground, are paddling in the overflow of the pool.
